Promotional copy examples

The promotional copy you provide as part of your expression of interest will be used for two purposes:

  1. the panel of independent assessors will use it as part of their 'judging' criteria
  2. it will be published on your studio page on the ACI website and possibly in other promotional material (e.g. posters and brochures).

Please feel free to be creative and provide copy that will support your application as well as provide interesting reading for potential visitors to your studio.

This copy does not need to include a physical description of your studio unless this is whimsical and/or will add value to your application/promotion of your studio. The physical aspects of your studio will be assessed by the WH&S audit as well as the supporting photographs you provide.

The following examples are adapted from the copy provided by two of our 2011 participants.

If you would like some help writing your promotional copy, please email secretary@artsconnectinc.com.au.

Example one – Janna's Art

We invite you to our special part of the Hinterland.

Our handmade stone house and studio are perched on the side of a rise, over-looking a valley near the end of the very scenic Curramore Road. This road winds through forest and the most spectacular open country, with views in all directions. Our informal garden is a treasure trove of sculptures – some have grown lichen to prove their age. And the studio … well take your time looking in there!

My studio is the place where clay comes to life. Sculptures in all stages are everywhere! Portraits watch over me; samples, works in progress and tools of the trade are my inspirational companions in this special space.

Sculptures in my collection range from detailed young children (sometimes as portraits) to large stylized figurative or abstract pieces. Animals, both from the wild and 'friendly', compliment my interest and settle in among the other forms around me.

When you have finished exploring, pull up a seat, have a cuppa and enjoy my creative space.

Example two – grakay pottery

I am a potter. I love what I do.

I make mainly functional pots, for the use and pleasure of myself and others. Where I live, what I do and who I am, all influence my work.

I share my life with my husband and best friend, Grahame, my three adult children (one of whom lives on the property), my two and a half year old grandson, a rambunctious 18 mth old Rotti, numerous chooks, ducks, geese, peacocks, various species of wildlife and special friends. Grahame is tech support for kiln building, wood cutting, firing etc.

There is remnant rainforest on our property and I get great inspiration from there. I am particularly interested in the multitude of different fungi, their colours and forms.

My work is mostly porcelain, soda-glazed and wood-fired.

Currently I am using soft tiles or slabs to create 'patchwork'. This 'patchwork' is then formed into pots, varying from a single tile to bowls to teapots. All are one-off individual pieces. Some are functional, some are purely for pleasure.

Another interest is glass work. I make kiln-formed glass pieces and jewellery and am experimenting, using glass with clay.

Australia wide and internationally, individuals and galleries have acquired my work. I have won awards for my pots and glass. I have participated in various sole and group exhibitions. For example: Wood Fire Tasmania 2011 & Australian woodfire survey 2005.

My aim is to make a visit to my studio a stimulating and creative time for visitors, both young and old. There will be opportunities for people to participate in my creative process. They will be able to 'play with clay' and observe firings (when occurring).

There is a small gallery area with pots for sale. 'grakay' is both the pottery and our bio-dynamic farm.
