Aileen Kumar – February 2012
Aileen has officially been making jewellery for 30 years, but unofficially all of her life.
On leaving school she went to Queensland College of Art and majored in Gold and Silversmithing. After college, worked for a commercial jeweller and spent many years making engagement and wedding rings.
Having always experimented with use of colour in her jewellery, three years ago Aileen discovered dichroic glass. A wonderful medium to work in as no two pieces are exactly the same.
"Each piece of jewellery is made from the heart and carries a combination of my creativity, soul and determination. This is a continuing journey where I mix the colour of the glass with gold, sterling and fine silver. All pieces are designed and handmade in my studio in Maleny."
